Notes From the First Meeting of the College of Elders and Deacons

by Kathy Wilson

The first meeting of ZPC's College of Deacons and Elders convened on Tuesday, January 10, and it proved to be a valuable event for the ZPC family, with over 90 leaders in attendance. Anyone who is  on the active membership roll of ZPC as an ordained Deacon or Elder, past or present, was invited to the meeting. After being treated to delicious desserts, thanks to Randy Laffoon and Liz Todd, we prayed in pairs for the needs of our congregation and for the mission of ZPC. We then joined together and committed, through the Covenantal Prayer , to seek God's best in communication practices, leadership, and conflict resolution. Praying together will be something that we will uphold as one of the primary purposes of our gatherings. Further Purposes of the College will be leadership development, information dissemination, and discussion of current issues.

Other Agenda items included:

This is an important chapter in the life of ZPC, and the College of Elders and Deacons welcomes your prayers as we seek to shepherd ZPC's family of faith.

There are several Forums for Discussion scheduled for the next few weeks which are open to anyone in our family of faith. We hope to see you there!

Hard copies of the College information packets are available in the Gathering Space, in Kathy Wilson's mailbox.

Below is the proposed change to ZPC's bylaws:

“It is the policy of Zionsville Presbyterian Church that each teaching elder, ruling elder, and deacon serving in pastoral relationships or as officers of the church shall adhere to biblical standards of personal sexual behavior, including sexual fidelity within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and chastity in singleness.”
