Matthew: The Despised
Pat Smith | Aug 16, 2009 | Series: The Twelve
A familiar warning is “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” One part of the Jewish population in Jesus’ day was assured that God’s good came to those who earned it. They also felt assured that people who didn’t live according to the rules were way outside the possibility of God’s good. So there were the “in God’s blessing crowd” and the “outside God’s blessing crowd.” When Jesus called Matthew to follow him, he turned this way of thinking upside down. This weekend, we’ll see that God’s blessing is a gift not a prize.
