...About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem asking, "where is the newborn King of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose and have come to worship him."    Matthew 2:1-2

The story of the Magi has always been very fascinating to me. Why would they come so far? How did they become known as Magi? After reading this chapter more closely, I realized how much we assume about this story.

The bible never mentions how many Magi there were, we just assume the number because of the three gifts brought to Jesus. If God wanted us to know how many Magi came to worship Jesus, he would have told us through Matthew. I usually hate not having the answer, but I feel comforted in the fact that the mystery was orchestrated by God. There is always going to be purposeful mystery in the Bible. God is urging us to dig deeper and to be satisfied with his mystery.

Activity:

Find a verse in the bible that interests you, read it, then savor the words. Read the verse as if you have never heard it before. See if you have any new takeaways or thoughts. This practice helped me to meditate with the words I was reading and understand them in a different way. I hope this devotional brings you some new perspective in your walk of faith.
