Peace

As we continue to await the coming again of Jesus Christ, we begin anew this day by lighting the candle of Peace; the second of five candles. We live in the Hope of Christ’s return and yet yearn for a promise of Peace in the midst of this darkness.
A world fraught with sin; a place seemingly abandoned to fear; a community fogged by darkness. And yet, we know and trust that the Kingdom of God is overcoming dark places.
Jesus is asking His bridge, the church, to shine through the caverns of darkness with His light. But it is an ask that we aren’t always comfortable moving toward – Lord Jesus, would you give us Your peace?

Hosea 2:14-16 reminds us of His ways of grace, love, and forgiveness even on the heels of our own rebellious ways:

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a. door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, that thou shalt call me “husband”; and shalt call me no more “master”.

Jesus has called us away from our ways of darkness; lest we forget that we once were rebellious and even this day, struggle with wavering in our faithfulness to God. Yet He is reminding us, not just so that we may bask in His peace but that we may share the peace with those who are living without it. May this beacon on a hill be one that shares the gift of peace.
