Jesus is the light of the word | Week 3

December 14, 2025 | Jason Chapel

Advent means the arrival of something noteworthy.
In the beginning, the world was awaiting in the midst of darkness.
And God spoke into existence LIGHT!
And it was good.
It was good enough that Jesus called Himself the “Light of the World.”
Light can cast out chaos, will shine in the darkness and is not easily overcome.
Light is good.
It still obeys God’s voice today.

And yet, night still calls at the end of every day.
It seems the light falls away and we can feel surrounded by the darkness.

Psalm 30 reminds us that God’s anger endures for a moment but His favor for life – weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

We should give pause --- that the account of creation starts in the evening but ends with the morning. The creation account finishes by saying,
“Then there was evening, then there was morning -- the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing. So on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

What a joy to rest in the creation that God made --- from evening to morning.

Can we rest in His plans?
Are we able to trust that His ways are working together all things for His good?
Will we wait through the night of sorrow, with eager anticipation for the dawn of light?
