About the author: I have been attending ZPC since 2001 and was married at ZPC in 2003 to my wife, Lynn. We have 3 children Ashely (14), Zach (12) and Rachel (9). I have been a past Deacon and currently an Elder at ZPC.

Today's Scripture: Psalm 46:10

At the edge of my parking lot at work is a rock that has engraved on it “Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10

I walk past that rock two to four times a day. Sometimes, I walk right past that scripture. Sometimes, I look at the scripture. Recently, I have really thought about that scripture. I run a small business with fifteen full-time employees. How can I “be still” and not have concerns about what the future holds? How can I “be still” and not worry about making payroll? How can I “be still” and not worry about paying the mortgage? All of these are real fears and concerns that creep into my daily thoughts. In case you haven’t heard, we are in the middle of a viral pandemic that is shutting down large portions of our economy!! I’m just joking with you!! Everyone has heard about COVID 19 every waking hour of every day for the past month.

Everyone is dealing with multiple anxieties and concerns. We are all in the same boat, so to speak. How are you dealing with these real life anxieties and concerns? Last night, as I was walking to my car I noticed about twenty feet from that rock that says “Be still and know that I am God,” a tiny empty bottle in the gravel parking lot. This bottle had obviously fallen out of someone’s car. It was an empty bottle of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. The image on the bottle is a red devil like dragon. It is at this point that I needed to give God thanks for his co-author help with this devotional. He placed before me a rock that probably weighs a thousand pounds that says “Be still and know that I am God” and a tiny plastic bottle that has been ran over by a car tire with the image of a devil that had been full of 66 proof liquor.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,
Please calm our anxiety and fears that we have on a daily basis. Please be the rock that we can lean on for strength during this crazy time.  Allow us to Be Still and Know that you are God!
Amen
