ZPC MISSIONS MOMENT – Learn. Be inspired. Pray!

Krysta Jordan has become a familiar face around ZPC. As she meets with ZPCers, gets to know the Zionsville community better, and grows connections in the Crooked Creek area, she continues her work of planting seeds and forging relationships for ministry and future service possibilities. But what does growing a ministry from the ground up look like?

Krysta’s position is through Youth for Christ in partnership with ZPC. Her role of Crooked Creek City Life Director started in January 2023 and represents the four year culmination of a desire for ZPC and Youth for Christ to work together. Krysta is currently laying the groundwork for implementing RealTALK into two Washington Township middle schools. Volunteer opportunities will eventually be available as this program takes root and grows.

RealTALK is a curriculum developed by City Life, a ministry under the umbrella of Youth for Christ. It connects mentors and students in a safe place to discuss important topics such as: trust, integrity, respect, mental health, and self-care. Krysta says, “The goal is to build self confidence and character so that students will be able to figure out their purpose in life.”

The road to gaining entry into schools has been a difficult one. While Eastwood Middle School sought after this programming, other schools were less open. Between a concern over the curriculum being faith-based, and schools being inundated with a variety of programs, Krysta had to make herself and what she offers stand-out. Through many months of visiting multiple schools, networking, attempting to set-up meetings, and consistently reaching out and following up, Westlane Middle School has also recently agreed to host the program.

Gaining this access, though, is only the first step. From there, Krysta’s focus shifts to relationship building. In addition to interacting with the teachers, Krysta spends time with the students, getting to know them and building trust. Eventually, she shares the program with them, letting them know that it caters specifically to them and works to “keep it real” for all they’re going through. “A lot of students want an outlet to talk about these things,” Krysta says.

Krysta is passionate about building relationships with students, as well as the support and growth RealTALK will bring. “(RealTALK will) help them to see who they really are, most importantly in Christ, and really not only believe that, but to live that, now vs. later… The sooner the better because you’re walking in freedom.” She continues, “To be able to walk in that freedom, even at a young age, I get really fired up about that. A lot of young people are discounted because they’re teenagers. That doesn’t mean they can’t live in the fullness of who they are now.”

Krysta is excited that her efforts are starting to bear fruit! Eastwood is to the point of launching two RealTALK groups in April. Due to the program just beginning at Westlane, Krysta’s focus there will be to build rapport and provide support for the students and teachers through the end of the year.

How to Help
As Krysta continues her efforts in the schools as well as working on summer programming, she would appreciate prayer for:

  • The direction of the ministry, specifically in the summer months, and what God wants to do in that area
  • The students in general, for the things they’re facing, that God would be at work in their lives
